The 10 Best Ways to Spend Your Free Time Frugally

It's easy to stick to a budget during the weekdays, but when the weekend comes, hell breaks loose and we tend to overspend thinking that we can’t have fun without spending. Below, are some ideas to inspire you to spend your free time frugally.

1. Reading

Reading can be the cheapest way to spend your free time, especially if you get a library card and start borrowing books, or if you buy second-hand books. It's also an enjoyable activity. 

2. Journaling/Writing 

It has been proven that journaling is a great stress management tool, it also helps to put your thought into perspective and thus increasing your mindfulness.

Apart from the obvious cardiovascular benefits, running can boost your mood and make you happier. A study at the University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre(CRCHUM) shows that the "runner's high" phenomenon is caused by dopamine, an important neurotransmitter for motivation. 

4. Gardening 

Gardening is a great way to save money on herbs that you cook with, but it’s also a great way to reduce your stress especially if you love it. You don’t have to have a big garden to enjoy this activity, some pots can be enough. 

5. Going around your city and taking pictures

If you love photography and enjoy visiting new places, this is the best activity for you. This will help you fall in love with your city and be able to see every beautiful corner in it. 

6. Blogging about something that interests you 

If you love writing and you would like to inspire others, start a blog about what interest you.

No time spent learning is ever wasted, quite the opposite by learning new ways to do things, you’re saving so much time that otherwise could’ve been wasted by unproductivity. 

9. Volunteering 

People who volunteer are getting more out of it than just an altruistic feeling. Helping others has been proven to boost your mood and increase your self-esteem, it’s also a great way to put your mind off your problems for a while. Usually, these problems are self-created and that don’t need an action to be taking on. 

10. Spending time with family
